Dark matter is indispensable to explaining why our universe looks the way it does today. Although humanity has not yet directly seen dark matter itself, observations of visible components such as galaxies provide hints about its properties. This talk focuses on the physics of dark-matter halos that follows naturally from known dark-matter properties, and introduces approaches to probing the true identity of dark matter through the growth of such halos over cosmic history.
