Phenomenological Properties of an Extended SU(5) Grand Unified Theory
Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) attempt to unify the electroweak and strong interactions. The minimal GUT model is based on an SU(5) gauge symmetry. However, the minimal SU(5) GUT suffers from several problems, and some extension is necessary.
In this seminar, the first half will provide an overview of the GUT idea. In the second half, we will introduce a model that extends the minimal SU(5) GUT by adding a new scalar field and discuss its phenomenological properties, including the mass spectrum of new particles at low energy scales.
