Mysteries of the Standard Model and Extra Dimension Models

The Standard Model achieved great success with the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, yet many phenomena remain unexplained. One is the family number problem: quarks and leptons exist as three copies that differ only in mass while sharing the same spin and charge. In extra dimension models, the number of families is linked to the geometry of the extra dimensions — giving the family number a concrete physical meaning.
