A magnetic monopole is a hypothetical particle that carries an isolated magnetic charge, unlike ordinary magnets which always have both north and south poles. Such objects are closely related to symmetry breaking in particle physics. In the Standard Model, a monopole solution known as the Cho–Maison monopole (or electroweak monopole) is known. In this talk, I will introduce the properties and behavior of this monopole. In particular, I will explain that this monopole can be understood as the low-energy manifestation of a regular monopole that appears in higher-energy theories.
